Decluttering your home: What to do when you can’t give it up

I believe decluttering your home is not only about making space but also about making yourself feel better. But, one area I know many struggle with, is the transition from babies to children and the decisions we need to make in what to keep and what to throw away.

If your children are old enough and willing, they can be a great help. By restricting what they can keep to a sturdy storage box things become easier. Make sure your box has a lid and, if you have more than one child, a label! As your children grow, their boxes can be edited. Their attachment to items they wanted to keep when they were 7 will have changed by the time they are 12. New things can be added to the box and some older items might be removed, but what about those things they can’t remember but mean so much to you: their first baby grow, a skirt they wore until it really was too small or a pair of trousers worn through at the knee.

If we kept everything we would probably need another wardrobe (or two!). One solution is to take a photograph but I have discovered another more beautiful answer: nonnyrabbit.

Using fabric from your favourite items (or combined with those from her own extensive selection), nonnyrabbit creates beautiful unique products ranging from quilts and snugglers to bunting. It seems there is nothing this talented lady cannot create, giving you happy memories and keepsakes to enjoy forever.

I urge anyone with clothing you cannot bear to get rid of to visit her website.
